Chicken CarPark

I have been working, gathering information and photographs of a car park in the centre of Gibraltar that houses a flock of stray chickens. I moved to Gibraltar in January 2026 and this car park was the first place I stepped out and I immediately discovered these chickens. Ever since, I have been making regular trips to bring them food and water, alongside other local people. I was struck by how popular these animals are to the population of Gibraltar.

Having travelled to Asia and Africa, I have seen stray chickens treated with indifference, just another noisy annoyance. Chicken car park is different, people exclaim when they walk past, children ask parents to stop so they can look at them. These chickens are more than meat and eggs producers, they’re loved and cared for, they’re part of Gibraltar.
